Sponsorship Applications

The aim of our sponsorship involvement in many New Zealand communities is to encourage excellence, in much the same way as we aim to set an example in the conduct of our business. All our sponsorships support things that the Bank, and New Zealanders, are proud to be associated with.

The National Bank's sponsorship portfolio is currently fully allocated. We are happy to consider future sponsorship proposals which meet our criteria. These criteria help us fulfil our commitment to excellence.

Sponsorship Criteria

The sponsorship proposal must:

  • Clearly reflect and demonstrate our Values
  • Provide tangible benefits to communities and staff
  • Provide opportunities at both a brand and business unit level
  • Have high impact, relevance and visibility
  • Reflect excellence
  • Be capable of generating a measurable return (i.e. branding, publicity, customer involvement).

To help us evaluate the large number of sponsorship proposals we receive, applications should also include the following information:

  • Key details of the opportunity
  • Dates and timing of the event
  • Overview of your marketing plan - including what is and is not confirmed
  • List of sponsors who have committed to date
  • A comprehensive list of benefits, including how they relate to our core business
  • Timeline, including important deadlines
  • Credentials of your organisation and key subcontractors (publicists, event producers, etc.)
  • Number of years the sponsorship will run
  • Contact details – including name, phone number and address.

Exclusions

We will consider proposals in all categories except:

  • Individuals, as it is not possible to support on an equitable basis
  • Equine events
  • Any event involving discrimination
  • Any event entailing risk or danger
  • Events performed outside New Zealand, except as a natural extension of an existing sponsorship
  • Any political or religious event or organisation
  • Those undertaken with under-resourced organisations or to cover the costs of organisational administration
  • National organisations at a local business level
  • Naming rights of buidings or properties
  • Proposals under $500 in value (we class these as donations).

In addition, the Bank is selective in sponsoring conferences as it is sometimes difficult to achieve value at a conference unless we are either a major or sole sponsor. We will only sponsor a conference if we feel that the Bank’s exposure will not be diluted by the involvement of other sponsors.

General Considerations:

  • We require sponsorship exclusivity in the category of financial services.
  • We generally need a minimum of six months lead time.
  • Logo exposure is considered a bonus, but is not the primary goal of sponsorship.
  • We prefer to invest in sponsorships that carry out audience research during and/or after the event. This may include both qualitative and quantitative research, of which we expect the results to be made available to the Bank.
  • We expect that our sponsorship partners will invest a minimum of 10% of the total value of the sponsorship to pro-actively maximise the sponsorship.

Process for Consideration:

  • All proposals are reviewed by The National Bank’s Sponsorship Manager to assess suitability, feasibility, and resources required (human and monetary)
  • Recommended proposals are presented to the Chief Executive for approval
  • Sponsee will be notified in writing of the outcome of assessment of their proposal (please allow three weeks for this process).
